Caroline Ingham’s practice explores our relationship with our bodies at times of ‘bodily doubt’ and vulnerability. Holding both a sense of wonder and curiosity about the inner workings of our bodies she is also fascinated by how we navigate experiences of trauma and illness through the construction of personal narratives.  She is encouraged by the growing interest and value assigned these ‘stories’ largely as a result of the developing discipline of ‘narrative medicine’, a medical approach that utilises personal narratives in clinical practice, research and education as a way to promote healing. Her work is an attempt to recognise these narratives and realise them in three-dimensions, to build a ‘feeling scape’ of our bodies through assemblages constructed of hand dyed and painted canvas and other textiles which have been stuffed, wired and painted with pigment wax.
